Joseph Rudyard Kipling (1865 – 1936) was one of the first Commissioners of Boy Scouts, a cause he remained devoted to. The Jungle Book was first published in book form in 1894; this text in based on the 1906 Edition with art work of the Detmold brothers. The tales are fables in which the adventures of animals convey a sense of moral rectitude, became standard reading for the Cub Scouts.
