Description
Lays Of Ancient Rome by Thomas Babington Macaulay
These are attempts to reconstruct in English form, the lost ballad-poetry of Rome, out of which its traditional history was thought to have grown. In the edition of 1848 there was added ‘Ivry’, a ballad of the victory of the Huguenots under Henry of Navarre at that place in 1590; and the fragment ‘The Armada’ describing the scenes in England on the news that the Spanish fleet was coming. Contents: Preface; Horatius; The Battle of Lake Regillus; Virginia; The Prophecy of Capys; Ivry; The Armada.
