Description
Tales Of My Landlord by Jedediah Cleishbotham
Jedediah Cleishbotham is a pseudonym of Sir Walter Scott. A complete set of Tales Of My Landlord, the first series. A series of novels that form a subset of the so-called Waverley Novels. This first series, published in 1816 contains: The Black Dwarf and Old Mortality. Second edition. In four volumes complete. Walter Scott's novel The Black Dwarf was part of his Tales of My Landlord, first series, published along with Old Mortality on 2 December 1816 by William Blackwood, Edinburgh, and John Murray, London. Originally the four volumes of the series were to tell separate stories, but Old Mortality came to occupy three of them. Old Mortality is set in the period 1679-89 in south west Scotland. Old Mortality is considered one of Scott's best novels. They were called Tales of my Landlord because they were supposed to be tales collected from the (fictional) landlord of the Wallace Inn at Gandercleugh, compiled by a Peter Pattieson, and edited and sent to the publisher by Jedediah Cleishbotham. They were supposed to reflect aspects of Scottish regional life.
