Description
Satyrica by Petronius Arbiter
Originally a Latin work of fiction in a mixture of prose and poetry (prosimetrum). It is believed to have been written by Petronius, though the manuscript tradition identifies the author as a certain Titus Petronius. The work is narrated by its central figure, Encolpius, a former gladiator. The surviving sections of the novel begin with Encolpius travelling with a companion and former lover named Ascyltos, who has joined Encolpius on numerous escapades. Translation by Frederic Raphael.
