Robert Louis Stevenson Collection

Rarely seen uniformly bound Stevenson collection all published in 2006.

1.Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde – Born of a nightmare and “produced in white-hot haste”, this classic story has had a cultural impact out of all proportion to its size. Here is arguably Stevenson’s most famous work in small format once again, to be read and re-read with amazement, terror and delight.

Weir of Hermiston – Considered Robert Louis Stevenson’s masterpiece, and left unfinished at the time of his death, this novel conveys in theme, style, and tone the power of Stevenson’s creative originality. It is set in Edinburgh at the end of the 18th century and reflects the author’s fascination with the relationship between father and son and his preoccupation with the battle between good and evil within every man. Includes Stevenson’s projected conclusion and draft material.

2. The Master of Ballantrae – This book features some of Robert Louis Stevenson’s best writing. The tale opens in the old Scottish castle of Durrisdeer, the ancestral home of the Durrie clan, and then moves to India, France, and the American Adirondacks. The Master of Ballantrae draws readers into a fast-paced adventure that encompasses sea voyages and encounters with pirates.

3. Treasure Island – In 1882, the year before ‘Treasure Island’ was published, Stevenson lamented that romantic tales had become eclipsed by realism. His answer was to write an adventure story that would become ubiquitous, a novel that would not only set a course for future children’s literature, but also conjure characters, motifs and language that would become part of our collective imagination. A classic tale of heroism, piracy and adventure that has never been equalled

4. Kidnapped – Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel about the adventures of young David Balfour, is one of the Scottish author’s most famous works. Set in eighteenth-century Scotland, Kidnapped originally appeared in serialized form in James Henderson’s literary magazine Young Folks Paper from May 1 to July 31, 1886.

5. Catriona – This sequel to R.L. Stevenson’s Kidnapped takes David Balfour further into intrigue and danger as he seeks to solve the Appin murder and absolve himself and his friend, Alan Breck.
