On Life and Letters is a translation of M. France's La Vie Litteraire, a series of articles contributed to Le Temps. This edition of the book, edited by J. Lewis May and translated Bernard Miall, was published the year of his death. Anatole France was the pen name of the French author, and man of letters Jacques Anatole Francois Thebault (1844 -1924). Best know works such as Le Crime de Sylvestre Bonnard, his most celebrated novel, La Rotisserie de la Reine Pedauque was published in 1893. In his later years he became interested in social questions and protested the verdict in the Dreyfus case.
