Donald Cameron of Lochiel was Bonnie Prince Charlie's most devoted Highland Chief, at the heart of the Jacobite rising of 1745 which sought to restore the exiled Stuarts to the throne. He was also the man who spurned Cumberland's overtures for peace after the bloody defeat at Culloden. He escaped to France and sought to stage a re-run of the 'Forty-Five with the aid of the French. This absorbing biography draws on hitherto unknown or unused sources. Using Lochiel's own account of the Forty-Five which recently came to light in the archives of the french Foreign Ministry a startling reappraisal of the last Jacobite Rising arises.
