Lavengro George Borrow
Lavengro – Scholar, Gipsy, Priest by George Borrow. The first of Borrow's Romany novels, Lavengro (1851) is considered to be his masterwork, the sequel being Romany Rye. It displays Borrow's enduring fascination with the Gipsies, with the Romany language, and indeed with languages in general, and his impatience with humbug particularly as represented in religion (the Priest of the title).
