Little Dorrit was originally published in 19 monthly instalments, each with two illustrations by H.K. Browne (Phiz). Each instalment cost a shilling, with the exception of the last, a double issue, which cost two shillings.

Bound from original parts with stab holes present and includes all 19 original blue paper covers bound in at back. First edition, first state, [i-v] vi-vii [viii-ix] x-xii [xiii] xiv [1] 2-625 [626: blank]. Vignette tile-page dated 1857 and preface dated May 1857, 40 plates by H.K. Browne, all Smith first issue points present, namely p469, 470, 472 and 473 'Rigaud' instead of 'Blandois', B2 instead of BB2 [p371], and "William for Frederick" on page 317 line 27., errata slip inserted p1 instead ofp481., three line errata footnote of plate list, also including spacing off in "political", p50, "chimnies" p342.
